Miss Sara, our good friend from DC, was headed to SC for work, so she came in early to see us.
The weather was great, so we took her to our favorite tourist attraction- Stumphouse Tunnel.
We walked into the tunnel and then decided to do some hiking on the mountain above the tunnel.
It involved some climbing.
And some coordinated climbing down.
The weirdest part is that you can hike to see the air shafts that were drilled down through the rock to let light and air into the tunnels. Previously there were fences around these shafts, but they all have huge holes in them now.
So, like the best parents ever, we snuck through the fence and threw rocks down the gaping holes. It was more than a little creepy.
The kids are at least all following our hiking rule- wear fluorescent colors so we can see you. June picked a particularly striking outfit of a gymnastics leotard, leopard tights, striped knee socks, and a printed skirt with pom poms.
Next, we walked down to the overlook of Issaqueena Falls. Then we decided we were all nimble enough to climb to the bottom of the falls.
Not bad, papa.
It was cooler at the bottom of the falls, so June added a fancy pashmina.
The girls stuck close to Miss Sara.
Though they did accept help from me from time to time. (That baby is starting to show just a little bit.
Look at us!
