If you're like us, you might still think of Henry as this little guy.
But in December, that sweet little boy turned a whopping 8 years old! Henry at 8 is a fun time. Since I was sick for so long and Brandon traveled so much, he really stepped up to help take care of his sisters. More often than not, Henry was in charge of making supper for everyone and he can make a mean peanut butter and jelly sandwich now. He's also been known to prepare breakfast for all the kids so mom and dad can sleep in.
He's transitioned into the 3rd grade back here with no problems and receives great marks on all of his report cards. Still a voracious reader, he engulfs entire book series as fast as we can check them out of the library. He's a big fan of the 39 Clues books, the Lord of the Rings series (with some help from the audiobooks) and English-translated Kung Fu graphic novels. He's really enjoying all of the new Hobbit movies that are coming out and would gladly spend all of his time playing Minecraft and all of the Lego video games. He's also started on the local swim team and practices two nights a week.
For his birthday, Henry received a quadcopter, the latest in a line of remote control aircraft and by far the most durable and controllable aircraft he's received yet.
And it performs some cool tricks.
We let Henry invite 4 friends over for a sleepover for his party. June also got to invite her friend Maddie over so we didn't have to listen to her gripe all night. The party started with pizza.
And a Creeper ice cream cake.
From this picture, I'm sure you can imagine how calm these kids were.
After the cake, the kids got down to the business of playing Playstation Allstars, a video game where all the great playstation game characters beat each other up in amusing ways at a PG level. There was a lot of screaming. The younger kids got sent upstairs and the big kids got to stay up late and watch Elf.
John and Katie were ready for sleep by the time the movie ended. Henry, Paul Carter and James had to shushed a few times before they calmed down around 11:30. A good time was had by all.
