Sick, sick, sick- March 27 to March 29.

It started with Beazy.  The Charleston trip did not agree with her.  We didn't do a lot of sleeping.  Then she cried every time we put her in her car seat.  She was always worried we were going on another long trip. 

That got her nose to start running.  Then she started getting a suspicious rash.  We went to the doctor and they confirmed hand, foot, and mouth, and a sinus infection, AND a double ear infection.  Not to mention she was cutting two new teeth (perhaps helped along by the tumble she took last week that tore her frenulum).  Poor baby.

Then June didn't feel well either. We both came down with sore throats and fevers.  We moped around for a day then went to the doctor because we were afraid it might be strep.   

As it turned out we both had sinus and ear infections.  The nurse said she was surprised June's eardrums hadn't popped.  Poor Junie must have been in a lot of pain.

But yeah for antibiotics!

We were feeling good again in just a few days.  We made sure help ourselves along by getting ourselves plenty of slushies.  I'm pretty sure that's what made the difference.

(In our week of bad luck, Henry also managed to knock his head pretty hard on a monkey bar.  He had a serious goose egg that warranted calling our doctor for the 3rd Friday night in a row.  What is it with these kids?  Why do we only get sick and hurt on weekend nights?)

The healthy members of our family did the smart thing and got out of the house.  Dad, Henry and Georgie went down to Huntington Beach to go camping with our friends.  

They had a really fun time, but I'm pretty sure it got awfully cold at night.  I didn't regret missing that part.

I didn't get many pictures out of Brandon, but I do know that Georgie was awfully tired when it was over.

Georgie and Bea- March 24.

Georgie's class made easter cards for us.  This is hilarious.

And inside the card was a picture of Georgie holding a baby duck.She really is a pretty little girl.  Lucky for us, they took the picture on a day when I actually did her hair.

Usually it's more in her face, like this. I don't mind her hair when she brings me little flower bouquets though.

4 is really looking good on Georgie.  She's just the sweetest, kindest thing.  When I accidentally knocked over a box of office supplies, she picked them up and sorted them out for me.  I want to keep Georgie this age forever. 

Except for the night she came downstairs at 11pm with a loose tooth and a doll with its arms snapped in half.  I don't know if we'll ever figure out how that happened.

June and Georgie are getting along wonderfully too.  It's so nice to have a playmate in your house.

Now on to sweet Bea.  She still sleeps a lot and usually has to be woken up to drive somewhere.  Poor kid.

She's pulling herself up to standing.  And she thinks it's hilarious when June gets in her crib.

Her favorite activity is crawling in the pantry to find an onion.  When she finds one, she carries it around with her all over the house.  I spend the day collecting them and putting them back.  She really likes it when she finds an onion that's sprouted.  It's got its own handle.

Bea loves her friend Tia.  Except for when Tia hugs her a little too hard.

Odyssey of the Mind and Charleston- March 20-22.

The Turners got a little vacation!

We traveled down to Charleston for the weekend.

It was such a lovely evening that we decided to visit Riverfront Park.

And the girls insisted I take their pictures in front of everything.

 Georgie is seriously cute in this one.

This is when I decided it was definitely time to put this dress away.

And the kids all play together without fighting.  It does happen sometimes.

Here's the real reason we came to Charleston- Henry's Odyssey of the Mind tournament.

These guys put in some serious work for months.  In the end they were meeting for about 10 hours a week.

You can tell Henry was excited because he actually gave me a genuine smile.

Here's the final product.  They had to build a balsa wood structure that held 4 marbles that had to be released one at a time.  And here's the kicker- the whole thing couldn't weigh more than 18 grams.  That's less than a marble!  Then they stack a bunch of weight on the structure until it breaks. I think they made it to over 100 pounds before it broke.

State champs! 

In fairness, they were the only team in their age division, but they didn't know that.  And I'm pretty sure they would have beat anyone else out there.  Way to go, guys!

 

The competition took all day and didn't offer much for the little kids, so we went back to the hotel to play in the pool.  That's our friend Townes with us.  His brother Jasper is on the team with Henry.

On Sunday, we ventured into Charleston.  

The weather was pretty crummy, but we got out at Battery Park to try to catch a glimpse of Fort Sumter.

I can't remember what this monument is for, but it had stones from many different states.  The kids are each standing on their state's stone.

We topped it off with some awesome pizza.  And watched the national arm wrestling competition- which featured a guy I went to high school with.  I'm not even kidding.

While we were down in Charleston with the Odyssey of the Mind team, Henry's Lego Robotics team was in Columbia at the state competition.

They won the Innovative Solutions Award.  They came up with the idea of making a Minecraft mod to teach kids about geology.
